Program Features
Tuition per course is set for each academic year. Members of the Church of the Nazarene will receive a 10% discount.

- Your goal is to be ordained as an elder or a deacon in the Church of the Nazarene.
- You are a lay person with a desire to increase your ministry effectiveness through a structured educational program
Program Features
- A certificate program to enhance Christian ministry effectiveness.
- Designed for both clergy preparation and lay ministry development.
- Fulfills the Course of Study requirements (Content, Competency, Character, and Context areas) for ordination of elders in the Church of the Nazarene (and is approved by the Office of the Ministry and the International Course of Study Advisory Committee).
- All courses are also approved for those planning to be ordained as deacons except that the preaching course must be replaced with a course in your area of specialization. PLEASE NOTE: These specialization courses are not offered as part of the CMP program.
- Twenty-seven courses and a one-credit internship through your district for a total of 28 college credit hours.
- Taught by MVNU religion faculty and those approved by the Religion Department.
- Certificate requires completing all the courses described in the handbook; MVNU will accept half of the total number of courses (13 courses) as transfer from another program approved by the International Course of Study Advisory Committee of the Church of the Nazarene.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00.
- Class attendance required. No more than three absences per course are permitted.
- Transfer of credit to a degree program at Mount Vernon Nazarene University will be governed by the admission policies and requirements stated in the undergraduate catalog.
- There are no admission requirements for the CMP program; however, if MVNU credit is desired, a high school diploma or GED must accompnay registration.
- Complete the registration form and submit it to the Adult and Graduate Studies office to secure a seat in the course
