Career Opportunities

Your employment prospects are likely to be very good. More than half of all employers surveyed in 1996 said they planned to hire additional engineers. In particular, the surging electronics market has created numerous new jobs for technically-trained workers. The computer / technology industry planned to hire 66% more college graduates in 1997 than they did in 1996.

B.S. engineering graduates consistently receive higher starting salaries than do B.S. graduates in most other fields. The starting salaries in 1997 averaged $38,320 for electrical engineers and $37,782 for mechanical engineers (source: National Association of Colleges and Employers).
