Comforting an abused child…assisting a homeless family…helping an elderly patient plan his post-hospital care…listening to the concerns of a teen mother…developing a community adopt-a-grandparent program…these are some of the rich and varied services a social worker might perform. If reaching out to others in this away interests you, a career in social work can provide meaningful avenues of ministry to others in a wide diversity of settings.
The social work program at Mount Vernon Nazarene University can provide you with the knowledge, skills, values, and ethics that a social worker must acquire and integrate for competent and professional practice.
MVNU’s social work majors are prepared within a Christian liberal arts context for entry-level positions upon graduation at the generalist practice level, for professional licensure as beginning practitioners, and for graduate study.
Social work graduates have the knowledge, skills, and a professional value base necessary for problem solving and critical thinking in the challenging circumstances of today’s world. With a strong foundation in Christian values and ethics, they are able to respond to the dynamics and consequences of social and economic injustice, and to understand how to utilize the social policy process to promote justice.
