MODERN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
With the world becoming increasingly smaller due to advanced technology and greater travel opportunities, there are more reasons than ever before to study a second language. In order to be "effective change-agents, citizens, and stewards in the global village of the 21st century," the study of languages is extremely important. Studying another language and culture improves knowledge of one's own language and culture.
The Modern Language Department at Mount Vernon Nazarene University offers both a major and a minor in Spanish, including both a general track and a teacher education program that will meet licensure requirements for grades K-12 in on language, literature, and culture. During your program, you will be able to spend a semester in Spanish language and culture.

Graduates of MVNU with a Spanish major are now working in such varied careers as education, missions, social work, criminal justice, the airline industry, law, tropical medicine, government, business, and bilingual human resources.
Coursework in Spanish is also available to those choosing other majors, such as business, religion, or social work, where proficiency in another language will magnify your possibilities. No matter what career you choose, you will have an advantage if you can speak more than one language.
