The University awards degrees during semi-annual commencement ceremonies held each May and December. Commencement materials and student participation are governed by the following policies.
1. Students who complete all degree requirements between February 1 and July 31 of the same year are assigned to participate in the May commencement.
2. The May commencement program, including the listing of degree candidates and graduation honors, is based upon course enrollment at the spring midterm. Students who have earned credit by transfer must provide final transcripts to the Director of the University Registrar's Office by April 1 for inclusion in the commencement program. Students who utilize credit through proficiency examinations must have the credit-by-examination earned and posted on the MVNU transcript by April 1 for inclusion in the commencement program.
3. Students who complete all degree requirements between August 1 and January 31 of the next year are assigned to participate in the December commencement.
4. The December commencement program, including the listing of degree candidates and graduation honors, is based upon course enrollment at the fall midterm. Students who have earned credit by transfer must provide final transcripts to the Director of the University Registrar's Office by October 1 for inclusion in the commencement program. Students who utilize credit through proficiency examinations must have the credit-by-examination earned and posted on the MVNU transcript by October 1 for inclusion in the commencement program.
5. The commencement program is tentative, pending completion of required work and submission of final grades.
6. The commencement program lists all degree candidates for the respective semi-annual period.
7. Diploma covers are distributed during commencement. Diplomas are mailed when degree requirements are completed, when grades have been received, and financial arrangements made. Permanent address changes must be made prior to leaving campus, so that the diploma is sent to the correct address. Replacement diplomas cost $30.00.
8. Students who inform the University they plan to participate in the commencement ceremonies, but do not attend are assessed a $25.00 cap and gown return fee.
9. Printed graduation honors are calculated using the student’s midterm grades of the current registration. Actual graduation honors are indicated on the final transcript and reflect actual final grades earned.
